Children’s Home Welcomes New Associate Clinical Director

    Alyssa M. Swan, PhD, LPC, NCC, RPT to join Children’s Home staff

    Poughkeepsie, NY- The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie is pleased to welcome Alyssa M. Swan, PhD as Associate Clinical Director. Dr. Swan will work alongside current Clinical Director, Dr. David Crenshaw to provide therapeutic services to children and their families. 

    Dr. Swan is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), and Registered Play Therapist (RPT). Dr. Swan is also credentialed as a Certified Child-Centered Play Therapist- Supervisor (CCCPT-S) and Child-Parent Relationship Therapist- Supervisor (CCPRT-S). She completed her doctoral training in the Counseling Department at the University of North Texas, her published dissertation research entitled, Effect of CPRT with Adoptive Parents of Preadolescents: A Pilot Study.

    Dr. Swan served over three years as the Assistant Director of the Center for Play Therapy (internationally recognized as the largest play therapy training site) in Texas. She worked as a counselor and psychological assessment clinician specializing in work with children, teens and families. Dr. Swan has written a number of peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and grants. Previously, Dr. Swan has collaborated with Dr. Crenshaw, including their recently published book chapter entitled, Play Therapy with Children Exhibiting Aggressive Behaviors. In addition to her research and writing, Dr. Swan has taught several graduate level courses and supervised counselors in training during their field experiences.

    Dr. Swan has relocated from the state of Illinois and now makes the Hudson Valley home.
